"Elitist" parking policy?

In what way is prohibiting parking on the street an elitist policy? Although many people are aggravated by it, very:16, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

If you don't have a driveway or garage, you're not elite. Does anyone know the history of this policy? —James S. 07:31, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The annoying ordinance was create during WWII with the pretense to create security. Almost all residents have at one time or another gotten a warning or ticket. The police department continues with the pretense "that it helps secure the city". East Menlo Park, next to East Palo Alto (once murder capital of the USA), is reknown locally for criminal problems. (Including unjustified shooting by MPPD.) More than once citizens have mounted campaigns to eliminate this law, but to no avail. The city council refuse to remove the outdate law. There is no expectation for this to change anytime soon.

If you live in Menlo Park and don't have a driveway or garage, you are out of compliance with zoning regulations. Now that's elitist. Vectro (talk) 23:28, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas Edison removed

[edit]

I reverted a change that put Thomas Edison as a Menlo Park, California resident. Edison lived in Menlo Park, New Jersey. --Stephen e nelson 00:40, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. --meatclerk 06:18, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The Edison, New Jersey article suggests that Edison lived in "Raritan Township" and it was his lab that was called Menlo Park. This seems to have been after Menlo Park, CA adopted the name though; not clear whether there's any connection.

Relevance of Power outages to this article

[edit]

Aside from the obvious misspellings, does anybody know just how endemic to Menlo Park power outages are? The section seems to be based on two documented instances of such. If that is enough to justify such a section for Menlo Park, then I can think of number of other cities that would need such a section.--Coro 20:42, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect

[edit]

How come a Wiki search for Menlo Park doesn't automatically redirect to this page?

Because there's also a Menlo Park in NJ. Maikel (talk) 14:10, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is also a Menlo Park in Nigeria —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hashinab (talkcontribs) 22:34, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

History section

[edit]

A chunk of Menlo Park's history is not present in this article. It is covered indepth in:

This history ties SRI International (already present in the article) with Stewart Brand's Whole Earth Catalog (based in Menlo Park) and Kepler's Books (neither of which appear on the page). Unless there is an objection, I would like to add this information to the article. -Classicfilms (talk) 17:17, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, please go ahead. Please cite your sources as well. Thanks. meatclerk (talk) 03:11, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I'll get to this in a few days. -Classicfilms (talk) 06:19, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's the economy.

[edit]

There's a list of famous residents but nothing on the economy and no mention of Google? Someone please amend this article! Thanks, Maikel (talk) 14:10, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NWA recording of "Fuck tha police"

[edit]

N.W.A recorded a significant and land mark track fuck tha police in 1988 in Menlo Park (this is verified by a long-standing statistic in the stat box of the track's Wikipedia page). Given the lack of musical/cultural entries for 'features' Menlo Park, I added this to the page - [edit].

I'm sad to see this was reverted without discussion by User:Ttonyb1. I'd like to create an opportunity for it to be discussed why this shouldn't be included here.. otherwise I'll add it back to the entry in the next day or so. Thanks 70.36.139.107 (talk) 03:05, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

they're correct.. the track's page confirms it was recorded in menlo and it is verified. I agree it should be added. Gippies [gip-eez] 03:29, 30 March 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gippies (talkcontribs)

I've tweaked the coordinates a bit, to a location more within the downtown area, also reducing their precision to the nearest 10 seconds of a degree. Is that OK, or did you want something else? Deor (talk) 22:01, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What needs to be done to improve this article

[edit]

I think we have done sufficient work to get Menlo Park to C level but we should discuss what needs to be done to make it better. --Erp (talk) 04:57, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Menlo Park, California in the 1960s and 1970s was associated with the New Left movement and activism (in part due to the proximity of Stanford), I don't see any of this in the history section right now. It would improve this article. PigeonChickenFish (talk) 19:08, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

History section - Menlough, County Galway

[edit]

Someone had changed the name of the location of the city of origin Menlough to Menlo for Dennis J. Oliver and D.C. McGlynn. However the two citations used clearly say "Menlough" in County Galway so this error was corrected today.[1][2] Adding a note here in case we need to discuss further. Hi Jooojay. I spotted the "disputed" tag when attempting a cleanup at Menlo, County Galway. In all honesty, I don't know which is correct. But, while the villages of Menlo, County Galway and Menlough, County Galway are ~40km distant apart, each article makes the claim that Oliver and McGlynn were/are from that village. It seems unlikely that the men were from both places. Or that one was from "Menlo" and the other from "Menlough". And, while the sources do refer to Menlough, to make matters confusing a plaque was unveiled on the pier at "Menlo", suggesting the latter. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can weigh-in. Guliolopez (talk) 18:08, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jooojay. I've since read the sources that you added to Menlough. And they clearly clarify that the Menlo/Menlough in question is the one near Galway city. Not the one 40km away near Mountbellew. In all honesty I think the mistake is your own. The article which should be linked here is Menlo, County Galway. And the plaque on the pier at Menlo, County Galway would seem to support that. Guliolopez (talk) 18:21, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Guliolopez, thank you for clarifying and clean up! I think I was confused - the names and counties are basically the same. Jooojay (talk) 22:07, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
